And finally, the Hooper family embarks into the very tame wilderness (our only threat--ticks and poison oak), bringing a saw to the neck of a helpless evergreen. We assuage our consciences by telling ourselves our tree is a happy tree since it has had such a beautiful view for its lifetime, but we know deep down we thoroughly enjoyed rolling up our sleeves and using the saw, while whispering to it soothing promises of a new life with bright lights and colorful decorations...here is our proof

Wow, another post in the same night?!

I am happy to share these photos of the sculpture I just finished. I've never tried to do a reproduction in clay (only in painting), and I must say, what a challenge! But wonderful, and messy, and unpredictable.

My Spanish professor saw the original sculpture in Guatemala but was unable to bring it home. After spending so many hours refining the details, hands gray with clay, I am hoping now to someday find my way to the village where these sculptures are made.

This marks the first post. Most likely this online blog will parallel my journaling habits, where the first few pages are filled in with dedication, and the rest are left waiting for words and scribbled sketches.

I'm hoping to mainly use this is a travel blog, but until travels beyond a few hundred miles commence, it will provide a great place for rambling.
